The Advanced Beginner sessions are geared towards increasing the children's' skill levels. This group typically has 1 or 2 years of experience at a minimum and is ready for tournaments, or has participated in tournaments and looking to raise their level. There are some very competitive children in this group, placing at high level tournaments. Coaches have higher expectations at this level than the True Beginners, and will provide a more intense atmosphere, working to increase mental and physical toughness, and will push this group. Each wrestler is encouraged to set goals and work hard to achieve them. The average age range is 6-10 years old.
Coaches in this session are experience wrestlers, ranging from State Qualifiers, State Champs to D1 Level College wrestlers. DC Coaches stand out, and take pride in the fact that they make every effort to attend tournaments that these kids compete in, not only to coach them, but to learn what their strengths and weaknesses are. This not only helps the Coaches learn about each individual wrestler so they can make optimal decisions during matches, but also helps Coaches form practices geared towards improvements they see needed through live competitions. Parents are asked to stay off of the mat and encourage from the side. Coaches are all available for discussions, concerns, advice etc. and ask that those conversations take place outside of practice times.
