DC Elite has been providing wrestling instruction since 2008 and are located in Hiawatha, IA. We have wrestlers from all over Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities. We have coaches that specialize in all levels of competition from Boys and Girls true beginners to Advance and High School wrestlers.
I started DC Elite Wrestling in 2008 to help kids reach their full potential in the sport of wrestling. I love the sport of wrestling and believe in what it does for kids in wrestling and other sports, as students, peers, and humans in general. I believe wrestling builds great character and shapes young men and women to become accountable, hard working people and great leaders even when they are done with the sport and start their careers.
I started DC Elite Wrestling in the Coe College wrestling room and after coaching a couple collegiate seasons with the Kohawks. I Eventually stopped coaching at the college level and started working with kids 1 on 1, which quickly grew in numbers. As the club grew, Coe College wrestler Johnny Siegel came on board and started coaching the kids with me which allowed for more and more kids to attend our practices.
Being one of the first clubs in the Cedar Rapids area, we had a great room with some of the states best talent all training with each other. To this day we are one of the only Iowa clubs to have a NATIONAL CHAMPION in all levels of college wrestling: D1, D2, D3 and NAIA.

In Iowa the name Alger and the town Lisbon are synonymous with wrestling, Coach Kal has them both.
Coach Alger was a high school stand out for both Alburnett and Lisbon High School. Wrestling Varsity for both teams and qualifying for the IHSAA State Tournament.
After high school, Coach Alger pursued boxing and mixed martial arts for two years. He then joined the U.S Navy Special Operations Contract and was honorably discharged due to a head injury. Shortly after that Coach Kal found his passion for youth coaching and helping kids excel in wrestling.
Coach Kal has been coaching at DC Elite for the past eight years and has been instrumental in bringing in high level female clinicians to help build the girls club at DC Elite. Coach Kal has also been an AAU National Team Coach at the Twin River Duals the past four years.
Coach Kal has made it his mission through coaching to grow the sport of wrestling. His favorite part of coaching at DC Elite is the family atmosphere and working with kids who truly strive to get better each week.
I began wrestling when I was four and immediately fell in love with the sport. I participated in many sports growing up, but wrestling was what I was most passionate about. As a kid I learned quickly that through hard work and discipline I would make myself better. I bought into the process of eating right and taking care of my body along with pushing myself constantly. I took advantage of every opportunity given to me and had support from many people along the way. I took pride in knowing that though I didn't win every match by points, I never lost a match because of my conditioning.
I knew before my competitive career ended that I wanted to stay involved with the sport. On my own time, I have assisted with the Alburnett Girls Wrestling Team and have helped guide others along the way. I am thankful to be given the opportunity to assist with coaching at DC. Not everyone will reach the top of the podium. That is a fact. I do believe, though, that anyone who wrestles and truly buys into the process will have success at whatever they pursue throughout their lifetime.
